Preschool

Madden is officially a Preschooler!

We had Round-up back in February and Registration was in August. During Round-up he had a lot of fun playing in the preschool room with all the toys, he didn't want to leave. When we told him it was time to go he said "Ohhh man!" with this huge disappointed look on his face. We've talked about school often since then and he had seemed to be excited about going.

Come registration he did not want to go! I tried to talk to him more about school in hopes to get him use to the idea but we wanted nothing to do with and cried at the idea of going to school. Thankfully a few other kids at his daycare were also going to start going to preschool so they all talked a lot about it. Our daycare provider made sure to help get them all ready too. Three of the other kids were going to different schools but the other Madden had went to the 3-year old preschool part-time last year at our school and was going back so they would be in the same class which helped a little.

Unpack Your Backpack Night
On registration day he still did not want to go to school but thankfully registration was across the street at the church so I was able to tell him we were just going to church instead and he was okay with that. The following week at Unpack Your Backpack he was a little hesitant about going. He didn't want to talk to his teacher and he stood by our side for a bit. He helped drop off his supplies to the right places and then realized he could play with all the toys. Stella and Carter were there too which got him very excited.

Madden has moved from his in-home daycare that we've used since he was 3 months old to his schools daycare, the adjustment has been a bit difficult for him at first which is understandable. He started going to just the daycare two days before school actually started to help get him acquainted with his new teachers, friends and surroundings. They are in the same building and connected by a small hallway. The days leading up to his first day he seemed to be okay with going to school with Stella and the other Madden as well as the idea of Carter and Maddens sister being at the big school. But at drop off Day One he got very nervous, shy and was a stage five clinger! He cried for me not to leave him and tried running to the door to block me from going out and tried to come with me. The teachers had to pick him up and carry him away and I just heard him screaming and crying all the way walking to my car. It was terrible!! It was hard on him which made it extremely hard on me too. The teachers said he calmed down after a bit but then as soon as Aunt Steph dropped off Stella he started crying again, probably thinking no one was going to save him.

The next morning at breakfast he told me "Mommy I not going to cry today." I felt so bad, he was trying to be tough. There have bee a few days when he gets really sad at daycare, especially during pick up when parents are coming to get their kids particularly if Uncle Jordan or Aunt Steph show up to pick Stella up. He is very concerned about where his mom and dad are and why we haven't picked him up yet. He has even tried to tell me he was sick and didn't feel so he couldn't go to school. He told me he needed to go to the hospital. Little stinker is already trying to play the sick card!  I think there has only been one other day he really cried .

Madden is 1 month into the school year and his new daycare, over these past few weeks he has really started adjusting well. He says school is fun and he likes all his teachers. He talks about all his new friends he's made aside from Stella and the other Madden who he already knew. He is picking up writing and recognizing the letters in his name. He colors inside the lines pretty well and is actually drawing pictures and not just scribbling.

Some kids just take a little more time than others to adjust to new schedules and surroundings. I've learned to be more patient, supportive, empathetic and encouraging to his needs. I am so happy to see him thriving and loving school/daycare. Now the after-school tantrums are something entirely different...

Harper 10 Months

Well I'm almost a month late, could have just combined this months update with the next but better late than never I guess. My baby is 10 months old, ughh! :(

Age: Ten Months Old

Weight: 17 pounds 15 ounces, 29%ile

Length: 27 3/4 inches, 51%ile

Size: Harper is still wearing size 3 diapers, she is in 9 month and 12 month clothes and pajamas

Hair: Light brown/blonde

Eyes: She has the most beautiful big blue eyes with long eyelashes. Everyone always complements her on those gorgeous eyes of hers and she sure knows how to work them already.
Health:  Another great month in the books! She had some more teething this month and had a couple days that it seems to bother her. She had two more top teeth come in. These one seemed to bother her more so that any of the others she’s gotten so far but didn’t last for too long.

Teeth:  She has a mouth full, eight teeth in total now! She got two more top teeth in. Still using teething tablets and lavender oil as needed.

Sleeping:  Harper is still a fairly good sleeper. She is usually ready for bed between 7-7:30pm and typically sleeps through the night. She has decided the past few weeks to start waking up earlier. I usually can hear her waking up right around 6:00am, right when Dave’s alarm clock rings for the last time it’s literally like clockwork that I hear her too. It actually has been helpful that she’s been waking up earlier as it helps keep my ahead of schedule, I feed her then try to have Madden up around 6:15am.  Her earlier waking has also transferred to the weekends which is NOT so nice. She is still taking two naps. Her first nap is around 8:30-9am and lasts 1.5-2 hours. Her afternoon nap at daycare is usually around 1:30pm and varies on weekends for me

Eating: She most definitely prefers to feed herself! Our daycare provider even gave up trying to feed her purees due to her pretty much refusing to eat them and just squawking at her and the other kids for their food. With our permission she started just giving her whatever the big kids are eating, just in bite size pieces. Harper is definitely a good little eater right now. There is not much she doesn’t like that I can think of, expect maybe green beans.  Harpers favorite food by a long shot is still watermelon, I mean she literally shovels it into her mouth and we call her chipmunk cheeks. She also really loves those Gerber little beanies that she inhales them.  Other top faves are dried yogurt melts, bananas, sweet potatoes, cheese, cottage cheese, pears, yogurt, peaches, nectarines, blueberries, all pasta, French fries, and Puffs....along with ice cream and cake on the rare occasion she gets a taste!

Harper is still breastfeeding although she doesn’t nurse for as long during the day, she’s more interested in eating food. She usually eats about 5 times a day. I nurse first thing in the morning, once I get home from work and at bedtime. She has two bottles at daycare and eats 3 meals. I’m still pumping once at work and am so counting down the days to be completely done with it!!

Favorite activity!!
Movement: Harper is a girl on the move and has become a fast little thing! She crawls everywhere and tries to get into everything. She really moves to get to her mama when she’s tired, ready for bed and ready to eat. She pulls herself up to standing on everything and has started getting more confident to let go of things for a second or two. She loves to stand along the coffee table and her music table.

Milestones: This month she has mastered standing. She now can wave and clap.

Favorite Toys/Activities: She loves non-baby toys, especially things that are big brothers. She constantly plays with his Melissa & Doug lock puzzle, SmartMax magnetic blocks, and crawls to his room to play with his toys. She does like her music table. She still loves bouncing in her jumperoo. Knocking down anything that stacks. Bath time! Being naked. Crawling on top of people. Getting picked up by big brother. Watching big brother all of the time and crawling after him. Playing peek-a-boo. Playing with doorstops

Dislikes: Has turned into a mamas girl and won’t let me out of her site when its nearing toward bedtime. Having the dogs water and food bowls taken away from her or moved always ends with tears. Hates green beans.

Words:  Says Mama and Dada…..mama is definitely on purpose and when she wants her mama!

Sounds: She squeals and makes high pitched screeching noises, girlfriend knows how to get loud! Still makes lots of raspberries and babbling.
Favorite Moments
  • This month she found the dog food dishes and has become quite obsessed with them. The first time she found them and started playing with the bowls I quickly put the bowls up. As soon as I took them away she collapsed to the floor crying! She throws herself face down then looks up and if your looking she throws herself back down and cries more. It's sad and hilarious! If she see's that they laundry room door is open she will make a beeline straight over to it. I usually can see early on when she's about to head that way and if I'm in the kitchen and can't see her, as soon as I hear those little arms and legs hit the wood floor I know where she's headed so put the bowls up well before she gets close if I haven't put them up already. If the bowls are missing when she gets there she usually cries a bit but gets easily distracted by the door stop. She loves to play in the water and if there is any food left in the bowl she likes to jingle it around to make noise. She will also will put food in her mouth if she can find any.
