Christmas in Review

Merry Christmas!!!

I hope this holiday season treated you all well and Santa brought you everything you wanted!
We are truly blessed with time we were able to spend with both our families and seeing friends who live out of town that we don't get to see very often. Christmas was so much fun celebrating with our little miracle on his first Christmas.

Here is our review of our Christmas in photos:

5 Months Old

Happy 5 Months My Little Love Bug!!

I swear some mornings when I pick you up I can tell you've grown or gained weight!

Overall you're a pretty happy little baby boy! You usually only cry when you start getting tired (or are overly tired) or are hungry. Other than that your all smiles and like to just hang out. You're a very chill little man. You just love watching people and the world around you.

You're an excellent shopping partner! I took you Christmas shopping with Tera one weekend, you hung out in your stroller the entire day just watching everything around you. You were just so content hanging out to observe everything that was going on around you including all the people, holiday decorations, the hustle and bustle of the crowds, music, etc. You just took it all in!! You did the same thing when daddy and I took you out to the mall the following weekend. I really couldn't have asked for a better shopping buddy!

You celebrated your first Thanksgiving (which I previously blogged about) and are getting ready to celebrate your first Christmas and New Year's. You enjoy staring at the Christmas tree all lite up. We've gotten you a couple of our own ornaments and you even made your very own hand print ornaments for your grandparents, which was also our first craft together :) I really hope you enjoy this time of year growing up, it's truly my favorite and I hope to make it very special for you....more on that later.

We finally got snow!! It's been like 300 some days since we last had any snow and of course it came with our first big snow storm of the year too. We only got 5 inches but it was extremely windy which caused blizzard conditions.

You had your first Christmas party at daycare. It turned into a pajama party, Miss Rachel gave everyone new holiday pj's and changed all the kids into them. She gave you other goodies too, a musical story book, puffs, yogurt bites, apple juice, and an ornament. Since you're not quite old enough yet your daddy tried out your puffs for you and we gave you juice to one of your friends. You also had a book gift exchange with the other kiddos.

Thanks to daycare you got another cold his month, and so did I :( This daycare business sure is kickin' both our butts this cold and flu season, although luckily we haven't yet (and hopefully won't) experience the flu. Daycare was hit with both croup and RSV at the same time you starting coming down with a bad cold and a horrible cough. You never got a fever or had trouble breathing so there wasn't much we could do for you aside from lots and lots of cuddles. Being a paranoid mama I made sure to keep the monitor turned up each night in case you did start showing signs of either croup or RSV, even though you were miserable you managed to sleep through the night two nights in a row… I’m talking 8:00pm – 6am the first night and 7:30pm – 6:30am the next!!

I of course slept worse than ever before because all I could hear was your constant coughing all night long. I think you went from either a growth spurt or a wonder week at the beginning of the month to this nasty cold which has causes lots and lots of sleepless nights for this mama. It's been a rough month for me in that department, I sometimes feel like we're back in the newborn days.

However your naps seems to be getting better for me during the weekends! Your going down much easier for your morning naps and usually will sleep an hour to an hour in a half. Last weekend you took almost a 3 hour morning nap!! Afternoon naps can still be a bit tricky getting you down and staying asleep but we're working on it.

Age: 5 months

Weight: My own estimation is 17 lbs

Length: Over 26 inches

Size: Size 2 disposable diapers, small and medium settings for all pocket cloth diapers. Still squeezing into 3-6 month clothes but he’s wearing 6 months the majority of the time.

Hair: I think he’s lost all his baby hair, or at least almost all of it. His mohawk from 3 months old is completely gone and his hair growing in underneath is starting to get a bit more blonde. He still has a bald spot in the back where his head rubs from being on his back.

Teeth: Not yet! He’s a drooling/spitting-up machine and always has his hands in his mouth like every other kid his age so he could be teething but who knows!

Sleeping: The majority of the time he sleeps from 7pm – 6am with just getting up once in the middle of the night for one feeding. Then hits a growth spurt or wonder week or another cold and our sleep schedule goes right out the window. Starting to get better at going down for his morning nap, afternoon naps and his evening catnap can still be a struggle sometimes.

Eating: Exclusively breastfeeding, eating every 3-4 hours. We haven't started any solids yet, our pediatrician gave us the go ahead at his 4 month appt but I wanted to wait until be was more ready. I think be might be getting ready, he stares at our food and is very interested in watching us when we eat. If he starts sitting up on his own more this month we'll see about maybe starting.

Movement: He rolled from tummy to back last month but has only done it once for us since, he just refuses now. Still hasn’t rolled form back to belly but will push up on his legs to move his hips up so I think it’s just a matter of time before. He seems to just like to hang out on the floor more than moving all around, I think he just wants to take his time growing up which is fine by me :)  He puts lots of weight on his legs and will stand up with our assistance for a good amount of time now. He’s still a little wobbly with his upper body when we hold him up at the waist but he’s getting stronger. He will sit up when we hold him up or prop pillows behind him. He loves moving his arms and legs like crazy.

Milestones: Finding his tongue! He sticks it out all the time now. He slept through the night (10+ hours straight) 2 nights in a row. He's becoming more aware of his surroundings each month. He recognized mommy and daddy's voice and will look for them until he sees us or follow up all around the room. He really loves studying and watching people his month. He stands with assistance for a really good amount of time. Picks up toys and pulls them up to him and above his head.

Favorite Toys/Activities: Eating. Bouncy chair is still his all time favorite. Car rides, he does so good running errands or on our way to/from daycare, he'll just stare out the window or entertain himself. His activity mat. Baths. Shopping. Rides in his stroller. Getting his diaper changed, getting his clothes taken off and being naked. Watching TV.

Dislikes: Waiting to eat. Getting snot sucked from his nose. Getting his nose wiped and getting saline drops. His jumperoo we have at home, its still to high up for him to reach the ground even on the lowest setting and he's not a fan of a pillow under him.

Words & Sounds: Lots of Ohh's, Ahhh's, Ahhaa's, gurgles, and babbling. Giggles

Favorite Moment: Celebrating his first Thanksgiving. Having him as my Christmas shopping buddy. Watching him find his tongue.
Sticking out that tongue of yours!

Time to celebrate your first Christmas you big 5 month old you!!

Getting Ready For Christmas

Madden was one lucky boy, he got to meet Santa twice in one weekend!

His first time meeting the man in the red suit and belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly was at the mall. He was a bit tired by time we made our way to Santa and got through line. He didn't cry at all and just wanted to look at him and his beard, so I'll call it a SUCCESS!

Of course right after we got done taking pictures Madden snuggled right in to Santa and his over-sized suit to cuddle, looked like he could fall asleep with him!

We met my family at the Machine Shed for brunch for to celebrate my mom's birthday. Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance. Carter said he was going to hide under the table from him...

MJ with Mr. & Mrs. Claus

Stella and MJ didn't mind hanging with these two one bit. Carter on the other hand didn't want his picture with them...maybe next year he will!

I just had to get home pictures with Christmas lights!!

We can't wait for the holidays to arrive at our house and to celebrate MJ's first Christmas!

Rare Moments

It's 7:45am...I love these rare moments when I wake up on my own. Currently, I'm sitting on the couch in a somewhat dark house with the Christmas tree lit, the fireplace going, listening to Christmas music enjoying my morning coffee and FINALLY catching up on reading some blogs while everyone else is in bed beside one of the dogs whose curled up next to me.

I love these rare moments!

It won't last long....I already hear Little Man starting to stir in his rib over the monitor so it won't be long until I can listen to him babble for a bit before he starts crying and really wants up for the day.

Why is my baby still sleeping at 8:00am on a Sunday morning? I wouldn't call it sleeping in. If he sleeps good the latest I let him sleep on weekends is 7:00am so we stay on schedule but Little Man is currently going through a Wonder Week right now, which means my good little sleeper is not so good. Its started a week ago or so, he started fussing every time we changed his clothes, some days he wanted to eat more, he started becoming more clingy in the evenings, crying more, harder to put down, and the past few nights has become a horrible sleeper. Last night he went down easily at 7pm but them processed to wake up every hour till 12:30am, then up at 2:00, 3:30 and 4:30am....until now. He usually will settle down and fall right back to sleep if you just sneak in to put his pacifier in but every time he wakes up now it's total meltdown city. So that is why I'm letting him sleep in a bit longer than usually, I'm hoping to avoid a very cranky baby,

Here comes the babble! He's talking to himself and totally smiling at no one...even giggling at the air. Let's hope happy baby continues for the day and this Wonder Week doesn't last long however I'm looking forward to seeing what changes come from this one!

Santa Baby

Christmas is by far my favorite time of year!! I just love everything about the holiday's...putting up the Christmas tree, hanging the lights and all the decorations, listening to non-stop Christmas music, cool-crisp winter nights, sitting by the fireplace, baking cookies, shopping, wrapping presents, driving around looking at lights, snow, spending extra time with family, and just the entire atmosphere

So how else to get Madden ready for this first Christmas than by having his first Christmas photo shoot!!!!  I've been waiting all week for this, mainly because I wanted to do it in the morning when he's the happiest so I made sure to do it first thing this morning. I wrapped up a box for him to sit in, he's my little present.

Dave's uncle got MJ Christmas pajamas that came with this little Santa hat, it's 6 months so of course the pj's fit perfect but the hat....it's a tad bit small LOL, I love it!

The small adult Santa hat definitely fits :)

He would have much rather ate the box than pose for pictures...

Eating the hat wasn't off limits either.

Santa Butt!

Fun with Lights!

Ohh I'm sure there will be more to come :)

Four Months

Look Whose Four Months Old!!!

Oh my how much we've grown since last month :) You amaze me everyday and I'm sure it will never end, which is just fine with me because I look forward to spending every second I can with you!!

Seriously kid, how did you get so darn cute?!?! I can't help but kiss those chubby checks of yours every chance I can get. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to smother you with kissed but you not yet mobile so I'll do it as much as I can before you can start to crawl or run away from me. This last week you just started smiling and opening your mouth every time I bring you in for a kiss, it makes you happy!

This month you celebrated your first Halloween and first Thanksgiving. For Halloween you wanted to be Captain American (or your father did), you're never too little to save the world ;) You went to your first Halloween party for daycare, Rachel and her mom had a joint party for all the kids. You got to see all your friends dressed up. You just sat and watched everyone, soaking up everything even though it was past your bedtime. You're such a trooper!!  For Thanksgiving mommy and daddy got extra days off work so we were able to spend a wonderfully long four day weekend together as a family. We went over to both your grandparents houses', decorated the house with Christmas decorations, put up our Christmas tree, daddy rented you both Christmas cartoons to watch, and we watched lots of football.

The week before Thanksgiving you decided to have your witching hour reappear. It usually showed up between 5pm and lasted till 7-8pm. You were overtired but refused to take a nap, fighting every chance you could to NOT fall asleep. Sometimes I could get you to finally give in but it was after lots of bouncing and walking around. You did not want to be set down and even after you fell asleep you wouldn't let me sit down or else you would wake up immediately.

Luckily this didn't last long, you seem to be back to your normal happy self again. Actually, you appear to be more awake and active now. And you have finally started to laugh out loud!!! Before you would squeal or open your mouth to laugh but nothing came out. Now you really laugh and giggle and it's the cutest most beautiful sounds this world has ever heard!!!!

You spent the majority of your 4th month fighting colds. Darn daycare! It has not been fun but you still seem to be one happy boy with a stuffy nose and cough. You started to get your first cold just a few days before you turned 3 months old. It started off with nasal congestion and a normal cough for a cold which last almost two weeks. Just when it was almost all gone you got sick again but this time it was a much more nasty cough. Your doctors office had me bring you in but it was just an upper respiratory thing, luckily it wasn't in your lungs or causing you an ear infection.

Even mommy got really sick and we both spent two days home sick together. You spent a lot of time cuddling mommy in our big king sized bed and even slept in daddy's spot for naps. I would prop you up on his pillow to help you breath a bit better and put you under the comforter from the waist down. You looked just like your daddy sleeping. It was the cutest! At night we had you sleep in your car seat placed in your crib for a week. This worked wonderfully and you actually slept great. It might have also been because I kept the Bundle Me on your car seat so you were nice and warm and snugly in it at night. I also got a humidifier for your room and put some Vick's in it to help with your cough and congestion. You finally got rid of all that sickness just this week and were able to enjoy the last few days of your fourth month cold free!!

We introduced you to a new toy, your jump-a-roo. You don't know what to think of it just yet. So far you sit in it for maybe 5 minutes just frozen and will look around at some of the bells and whistles but aren't too sure about what to do just yet. After 5 minutes or so your over it and ready to get the hell out of it! Daycare has one too that lower to the ground but less bouncy, Rachel just started putting you in hers and you definitely look around at everything and are just starting to interact with it. You just started really reaching for toys that are in front of you.

I love watching you develop, little things just click inside that brain of yours and all of a sudden you're doing something completely new. It's truly amazing! I can't get enough of you. I literally miss you as soon as I drop you off at daycare in the morning or as soon as I lay you down for bed. Even though your just in the other room I miss having you in my arms or playing with you, seeing you smile at me or hear you laugh and babble to me. My love for you grows more and more each day

Age: 4 months
Weight: 15 lbs. 7 oz.
Length: 25 3/4 inches
Size: Size 2 disposable diapers, small and medium settings for all pocket cloth diapers. He's outgrowing the length of all his 3 month clothes, he still fits in the majority of his 3 months but they are all high waters in him. He's in mostly 6 month pajamas. Wearing 3-6 and 6 month outfits.

Hair: He’s got some mad scientist hair going on. It’s lightened up a bit more and thinned out, it doesn’t show up well in pictures and looks like he is bald in the front but still has a good amount of hair on his head. He has a bald spot in the back where his head rubs from being on his back, it’s kind of funny.

Teeth: Not yet! He’s a drooling/spitting-up machine and always has his hands in his mouth so he could be teething but who knows! It could be months before anything pops out. With the amount of drool and milk he spits up we have to keep a bib on him practically at all times, otherwise we would be changing outfits every 10 seconds! Dave jokes that he's going to be the only kid on grade school still wearing a bib because he can't turn his faucet off.

Sleeping: He’s a pretty good night time sleeper. A typical night for bedtime is at around 7-7:30pm (occasionally earlier) which he usually goes down pretty easily, wakes up between 12-2am for a night time feeding then goes right back down till 6-6:45am. There are some nights he wakes up before midnight, if so I go in to soothe and settle him back down and back to sleep. I try not to feed him till after midnight unless he keeps waking up. It seems the last few weeks he has gotten over his 4:00am awakenings. Naps are still harder, especially since weekend are so much more difficult with keeping his schedule. But I find if I can catch his sleep cues early I have a better chance at getting him to fall asleep without a fight, the only thing is getting him to stay asleep. He still wakes up the majority of naps after only 30-40 minutes.

Eating: Exclusively breast milk. He eats about every 3-4 hours. He gets two bottles of pumped breast milk a day at daycare. I nurse him once in the morning after he wakes up for the day, as soon as I get home from work, at bedtime, and then for one night feeding. Although I would love to get a full nights rest of uninterrupted sleep, I actually really love that one night feeding. It's quiet and dark in the house, and he's quiet, cuddly and sleepy. It's my extra chance at spending some more time with him alone with no distractions and just focus on him.

Movement: Lifting his head up 90 degrees while on his tummy. Rise up on his chest with his arms when on his tummy. Rolled over from tummy to back 3 times. Able to hold his head up when being held or pulling him up to a sitting position. He brings his hands together, pulls toys up to his mouth, puts hands in his mouth. Bears a good amount of weight on his legs. Looks in the direction of a voice and will follow me around the room or until I'm out of site.

Milestones: Pushing up with his arms while on his tummy. Rolled from belly to back. Squealing. Laughing. Babbling. Not crying when he wakes up from sleeping.

Favorite Toys/Activities: Eating. Walks in the stroller. Car rides, he usually stars out the window. Lights and ceiling fans. His activity mat. Staring at the striped painted on his wall in the nursery and the hanging lanterns. Bath time with daddy. His bouncy seat. Playing/chewing on his lovey.

Dislikes: Waiting to eat. Being cold and going from the bath to the towel. Having clothes go over his head.

Words & Sounds: He's making lots more noises this month. Lots of Ohh's, Ahhh's, Ahhaa's, and babbling.

Favorite Moment: The other night I woke up at 1:30am because he hadn't yet woken me up to eat. Then I realized he was awake but he was just laying in his crib babbling to himself. I watched him on the monitor talking up a storm. I though maybe he would go back to sleep since he wasn't crying and I didn't want to disturb him if he was content, so I tried to go back to sleep myself. Fifteen minutes later he was still babbling away so I just got up to go feed him anyways so I could get back to sleep sooner than later. I bend over his crib, he looked up at me and continued to "Ohhh" and "Ahhh" and "Oooo". Then he stopped, smiled and laughed at me, like "Ha ha mom it's 2am, I'm not even tired right now and I got you out of bed sucka!" I seriously wish I could have video taped it!
