Urban Legends

I started following this website called 999 Reasons to Laugh at Infertility in which this was recently posted. I thought it was hilarious and so true! So I wanted to share it on here. I think nothing is more true than #5, I have come to have a love/hate relationship with Facebook although the Hide button has definitely helped! And both Dave and have been told #2 and #8 which just irritates and pisses me off now (along with a list of other comments made by people who know our situation I could add).  And yet, #7 is true there is an entire wall at the RE's office with paid "actor babies" :) I must the great thing about going to an RE now is that you aren't bombarded by pregnant people and their bellies all over the waiting room taunting you...plus!

Top Ten Infertility Urban Legends

1. Having sex leads to pregnancy. Having intercourse to get pregnant? How is that even possible?

2. The couple who got pregnant naturally after adopting. Everyone knows someone who knows someone this happened to. Although no one ever remembers the couple’s name.

3. Having sex during ovulation increases your chance of getting pregnant. You’ve had sex before, during and after ovulation so where’s the baby?

4. Fertiles have baby showers to celebrate the upcoming birth of their child. Untrue. The baby shower was created to torture infertiles.

5. The social networking site, Facebook, was developed as a new way to connect with your friends. In reality, founder Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook so fertiles can post ultrasound photos, belly shots and further torture infertiles.

6. The Fertility Clinic helps to get people pregnant. In reality, if you see a pregnant woman at your fertility clinic, she is probably a paid actress to make it seem like couples are actually getting pregnant.

7. The Fertility Clinic show cases a wall of thank you cards and baby photos. The babies in the photos are paid actor babies.

8. If you relax, you will get pregnant. You are more likely to get pregnant after being stressed out.

9. If you see a decrease in your basal temperature, likely, your period will arrive soon. A decrease in your basal temperature really means that you are about to have a complete and mental breakdown, believing that you are not pregnant before your period even shows.

10. You only need one egg and one sperm. You’ve had multiple eggs and millions of sperm which resulted in the conception of a large bottle of wine, tub of ice cream and overplaying any of these infertility songs.

HSG

I lucked out, it wasn't as painful as anticipated!

I was told to take 800mg of Ibuprofen an hour before the procedure, then they give me a local anesthesia in my cervix and was told to take another 800mg of Ibuprofen once I got home. That might have helped :) After everything was set up and I got in the OR, the procedure itself literally took 10 minutes. I could feel the dye contrast filling up my lady bits and was able to watch on the screen as the dye contrast went through the fallopian tubes. The dye contrast did have some trouble getting through the right tube which was pretty painful but it did make it's way through, just not as easily as it went through on the left.

Dr.F is not worried about it though since it did make its way through so it is open. He said if we would go in for surgery to check there would only be a 30% chance they would find something and again it did make its way through. After the procedure I felt totally fine, no pain, no cramping, no affects by the anesthesia, only spotting. I felt perfectly okay to drive myself home and even few errands. I did start to get some mild cramping and bloating about an hour and a half afterwards which lasted the remainder of the night and slightly off and on today.

Hopefully the HSG helped clean my right tube out a bit more! Since everything is open we will be staying on schedule as planned: this cycle will remain al-natural, will try on our own, get P4 tested again, then if no BFP next cycle we will start medication again and try our first IUI!

Let's all say a little prayer the HSG really DOES increase fertility the few months afterwards and help us out a bit more!!!!!!!!! Come on little swimmers, get through those open tubes and find that egg! ;)

It's HSG Time

Up next the hysterosalpingogram aka HSG test!!

The HSG is an X-ray test that looks at the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes and the area around them. It often is done for women who are having a hard time becoming pregnant (infertile). A dye (contrast material) is put through a thin tube that is put through the vagina and into the uterus. Because the uterus and the fallopian tubes are hooked together, the dye will flow into the fallopian tubes. Pictures are taken as the dye passes through the uterus and fallopian tubes. The pictures can show problems such as an injury or abnormal structure of the uterus or fallopian tubes, or a blockage that would prevent an egg moving through a fallopian tube to the uterus. A blockage also could prevent sperm from moving into a fallopian tube and fertilizing an egg. A HSG also may find problems on the inside of the uterus that prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterine wall.
Scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

I've gotten mixed reviews on the procedure from other girls on how painful it, from just being uncomfortable to comparable to labor pains....sooo I guess we'll just have to prepare for the worst and hope for the best we'll see what the outcome is Thursday.  I'll be given a local anesthesia and the procedure itself it fairly quick.

Let's all say a little prayer it's NOT comparable to labor for me, I'd really appreciate it :)

Weekend Away

Get ready for a boat load of pictures....I went up to Minnesota to visit my friend Roxie and my brother, sister and nephew. I of course mainly took pictures of Carter because he's just so darn cute!!! I drove up on Thursday to stay with Roxie in Uptown. I had my first IKEA experience and then we did some shopping at the Mall of America. Saturday I went over to Jordan and Steph's and once Carter took his afternoon nap we headed off to the Minnesota Zoo. It was so much fun watching Carter see all the animals and explore.

P4

When to get my blood draw Saturday morning and got a voicemail from my RE's office this morning with the results...I didn't even have to call this is amazing! I must say the lab did a fantastic job this time around. Since I had to work Saturday morning I went down to the lab right before my shift. They got me in and out in 7 minutes. And they got my blood drawn with only one attempt! My blood was drawn to test my progesterone to see how my levels are after ovulation which takes place 7-8 days after O. Nurse M said it was great, 33.2, which they like to see over 10 so mines is really good. Now we just wait for a BFP or AF to arrive and call in to my RE's office for our next step.
