When your iPhone knows best

Sometimes your iPhone knows you better than you know yourself
Or maybe it just wants to push you harder than you think you can.

Either way I went to the gym yesterday afternoon intending to finish week 6 of the C25K
After I got into the jogging portion I wanted to double check how long I had to jog so I could strive to get as close as possible.
Instead somehow I was in the middle of jogging day 1 of Week 7 which jumped me up to having to jog 25 minutes!!
WTF.

Finishing week 6 should have been a 22 minute jog which I was already nervous to do. I was very tempted to stop my run and restart to week 6 but instead I just went with it and figured I would get as far as I possibly could and if I needed to stop early then it wouldn't be a big deal.

It was pouring rain out while I was at the gym so I was easily distracted with watching the weather outside and listening to my music. Once those last 10 minutes though it was killer. All I wanted to do was get to the 22 minute mark, where I was suppose to be for this run.
I hit it and then my iPhone decided to play the new Eminem song I just downloaded, "Till I Collapse" and as soon as I listened to those words I was able to push myself to finish those last 3 minutes to complete 25 minutes of straight jogging, holy shit balls I did it!

Thank you iPhone for pushing me when I didn't think I could do it.

Thank you iPhone for playing the perfect song to help me finish the toughest 3 minutes.

Thank you iPhone for helping me complete 3.10 miles in 35 minutes!! F yeah!

ten months old

**One of these months I'll get these posted right on time.

Happy 10 Months Buggy!

Even though I started thinking/planning your birthday party a long long time ago, the last month I have been trying to put it far from my mind. I'm in a bit of denial that in only 2 short months you'll be a year old :(~

I can't not think of it for long because look how big you've gotten!!!

You are just so much fun!
I can't get over how hilarious you are every hour of every day. You keep your daddy and me laughing all day long!!
I can't pick what my favorite time of day is anymore. I love coming in your room each morning to get you for the day, you give me the biggest smiles. You're always in such a great mood, you play awesome on your own and with your friends, you have the best giggles, and are very ticklish just about everywhere. You love bath time so much you literally go crazy while you are in the tub, splashing around in the water. Sometimes you'll let me snuggle you for a few minutes before bedtime but you usually don't need it and put yourself right to sleep.

At the beginning of the month we took you to the local zoo (One goal for you complete!). Grandma Karen got you a new hat to wear for the summer that we got to try out. I think you look absolutely adorable in it. When we packed you up to leave you were so excited to go to the zoo!

You really liked the giraffes...which really isn't surprising now that I think about it since we have a lot of giraffe themed toys at home. You leaned as far as your stroller would let you to see them and get as close as possible. Cutest. Thing. EVER!

Daddy officially started his baseball season so that means you and mommy get lots of extra time together. Not only does mommy drop you off at daycare every morning she also picks you up the majority of the month (as well as the next two). Daddy has had a couple very late nights where he's missed you all together. It was rough the week of tryouts as he only got to see you one day during the week, he was so sad that we took videos and sent them to him. He in turn sent you a video message too.

Highlights:
- Went to Elliot from daycare's first birthday party
-Grilled out at your Uncle Jordan and Aunt Steph's, played with your cousins
- Celebrated Mother's Day, went to Outback Steakhouse to eat
- Took a road trip to mommy's cousins' baby shower 2 hours away
- Visited out local zoo
- Dinner with Grandpa Jim, Grandma Karen and Uncle Mike at Red Robin
- Dinner with Grandpa Gary and Grandma Mary at Buffalo Wild Wings
- Played in the grass for the first time, it didn't faze you at all and actually like it. You ran your hands through it, pulled at it and even tried to eat it.
- Went to daddy's first baseball game
- Pooped in the bathtub for the first time (so far just the once)
-Started spitting and spraying food out of his mouth
- Started going on jogs with mommy along the bike path
-          - Clicks and grinds his new top teeth together with his bottom teeth…drives me crazy!! Like nails on a chalkboard
- We helped Tera register for her baby shower and you picked out some great toys and ideas for little baby Berkey
- You found your boy parts!

My heart is so full with you in our lives my little man!
Your daddy and I love you to the moon and back, we are so lucky and blessed to be your parents.
Love,
Mommy

Age: 10 months old
Weight: 22 lbs
Length: 27 3/4 inches at 9 month appt
Size: Wearing 9M, 12 M and 6-12M clothes, although the 9M rompers are already getting a bit small because of his thick thighs. Size 4 disposable diapers, I really slacked on using cloth this past month.
Hair: Light brown, getting more thick and the length finally has evened out.
Eyes: Love those Baby Blues!

Health: Overall health has been great this month however we have been battling an ear infection the entire month. At his 9 month wellness visit we found out both his ears were red with infection, we have gone back to the doctor twice and are currently on our 3rd round of meds to treat the infection along with just starting Zyrtec this time to treat his running nose and nasal congestion. We go back to the doctor next week, if the ear infection isn't gone this time we will be referred to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. You would never guess this kid has ever had an infection, he shows absolutely NO signs and is quite the happy little boy. The evening we got home from travel for a baby shower you came down with your first fever that went up to 101.9, luckily after some Tylenol and nakey time it came down to just being warm to the touch until the next day.

Teeth:  FOUR! He finally cut those darn two top teeth, at the same time. We had one really rough night were he wouldn't sleep. He just laid face down in his crib whining/crying and only slept if we held him, which I did until 1:00am when he finally was out. Aside from that teething tablets worked like magic. We started learning to brush our teeth, mostly just at bedtime for now.

Sleeping: Aside from that one rough night from teething he is one awesome little sleeper still! He takes 2 naps a day which usually last 1-2.5 hours, sometime a third little catnap after pick up from daycare. Bedtime is around 7-7:30pm, some nights daddy gives him a bath, mommy reads 2 books then it's to bed we go. I put him in his crib wide awake, give him his blankie and paci, turn his sound machine on, turn the lights off and shut the door. He usually rolls around with his blankie for a little bit then puts himself to sleep and stays asleep until 6-6:30am.

Eating:  Breastfeeding is still going strong. During the week he nurses twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening after I get home from work. He gets two 6 oz bottles at daycare. During the weekend he nurses for all feedings. He gets 3 meals of solids each day along with snacks and offer his a sippy cup of water or breastmilk.
This month new things he tried – asparagus, chicken, beef, French toast, eggs, pineapple, melon, bbq pork, pumpkin bread, enchiladas, zucchini, salmon, pizza (green peppers, onions, olives, mushrooms, pepperoni, sausage).
Loves – any kind of bread or pasta (kid loves his carbs!), sweet potatoes, bananas, zucchini, salmon, puffs, yogurt, and all meat
Not a Fan– peas, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, wet/mushy fruit but only if self-feeding

Movement: He's quite crawling just yet but he's getting closer. He will get one leg under him. Right around his 10 months he just started pushing up on all fours for a hot second and will kind of army crawl. And he I snow scooting backwards when on his belly, especially while on the hardwood floors. He rolls everywhere!  Tries to grab everything.

Milestones: Scooting backwards. Army crawling. *Giving kisses*. Clapping.

Favorite Toys/Activities: Bath time by far is his favorite thing ever! Time to eat in his highchair. Dropping or throwing toys out of car seat/stroller or in his highchair

Dislikes: Still not always a fan of putting jammies on at night.

Words/Sounds: "Talks" all the time. Says Dada all the time and mama a few times. Still not counting it as his first word yet since we says it for everything. Giggles. Belly laughs. Screeches.

Favorite Moment:
- By far my favorite thing this month is that you learned how to give kisses. Hands down. Mommy seriously melted the first time you gave me one. I always give you kisses and usually always ask for them when I kiss you on the mouth even though I don't wait for you to answer me because you're a baby that doesn't talk or understand just yet. One morning when I asked, you opened your mouth and leaned your head in to mind....Heart. Melting!!! You're just starting to give them more often. Daddy has gotten a few, although he prefers them on the cheek (I think the open mouth kisses weird him out for some reason). Grandma Mary got your first kiss other than mom or dad.

Sometimes I Surprise Myself

I completed Week FIVE of the C25K!!

This is the farthest I've ever made it through on the program.
And when I say I completed week 5, I mean I made it all the way through the way I was supposed to....I walked when I was suppose to walk and jogged the entire time I was suppose to jog!!
No quitting. No walking early for this girl.
Woot woot!

Tuesday I did as I thought I would, I re-did Week 5 Day 2 which was jog 8 minutes, walk 5, jog 8 minutes. I struggled that last jogging interval. But I got it done.

Yesterday rolled around and I debated all morning what I was going to do. Either do Day 2 again for the third time or attempt Day 3, (which was jog 2 miles or 20 minutes with no walking) I wasn't sure if I was ready for that yet.

I was giving some encouraging words by Steph, Tera and a few other co-workers. So off I went, to the gym for a mid afternoon sweat sess. I go to the gym for my lunch break at work, I return a hot mess but it’s the only way I can get it in during the week.

The first 10 minutes weren’t bad. The following 5 were okay. The next 3 were hard. The last 2 were insanely difficult!!!! (Can I emphasize how difficult it was with more !!!)

I couldn’t help but keep checking the time the last 6 minutes. It was painful how slow time went. I tried to focus on my music and then came to the conclusion I need to get new music. Side note: if you have any suggestions on great music to run to let me know asap! Literally the second the time hit 2 minutes remaining I got a huge cramp and felt like I was going to die. I was sweating on places I never thought possible. Like dripping sweat. Even my ass was a sweaty mess!!
No joke.
I gave everything to get through those last 2 minutes. I told myself if I would go through labor and giving birth that I could finish those last two minutes.  I wanted so bad to be able to see myself do it, to be able to tell my co-workers I did it, and to tell you, my readers on this blog that I DID IT!!

This is the first time I think I have EVER jogged 20 minutes straight. In my life!
Now I know I didn’t jog those 2 miles, but I did jog 1 ¾ miles!!
My longest distance jogging without stopping so that in itself is something to celebrate.
Cue the music : “It's time to celebrate...Celebrate good times come on!”…Yes, Tera actually played that for me when I got back to the office :-)
So, I did it!

I took yesterday off the 30 Shred because my body was so exhausted from it but I figure my only good excuse for taking a day off the Shred, it's got to be because I'm doing the C25K.

Now I can start week 6 tomorrow.

Look at Me

I can clap...

And give kisses...or sometimes try to eat mommy's face!

I love breakfast time, eating in my highchair and especially eating my carbs like cinnamon bread (that might be why I'm packing on the pounds!).
When I get excited I flap my arms and wave my hands like this :)

I love shopping with my mommy and sitting like a big boy in the shopping cart!

And I absolutely LOVE bathtime!!

Happy Monday!!!

Weekly workout

The first time I attempted the C25K I just barely made it through week 5. And even in that week I wasn't able to fully run what I was suppose to run. I walked more than I should and ended runs early. A few weeks ago somehow I got a day behind the program by redoing once of the days twice on acciedent and instead of skipping ahead I just went with it.

So this week I started at Week 4 Day 3 - Jog 3 minutes, Walk 90 secs, Jog 5 minutes, Walk 2.5 minutes, Jog 3 minutes, Walk 90 secs, Jog 5 minutes. I made it through the entire workout as directed.

I thought about redoing that run because I didn't think I was ready to jog 5 minute intervals but once I got to the gym I just went with my gut and decided to do it and see if I could. Week 5 Day 1 - Jog 5 minutes, Walk 3 minutes, Jog 5 minutes, jog 5 minutes, Walk 3 minutes, Jog 5 minutes.

And I did it!

Then Friday came and I went to the gym thinking I would do that run again because Week 5 Day 2 was Jog 8 minutes, Walk 5 minutes, Jog 8 minutes. I didn't think there was anyway I could do that.
But I decided to try it.
You'll never know if you don't try, right ?!?
So I did...and I did!
I made it, the entire thing without walking.
It was hard. I was literally dripping sweat, it was gross but I felt awesome that I did it AND DONE!!

I'm a bit nervous about what's next, 20 minutes straight of just jogging. This time I really might repeat this last day before attempting it but I guess we'll see once I get to the gym tomorrow...

As for the 30 Day Shred, I was able to keep up with it from Sunday through Wednesday. Then I was distracted with a baking order Thursday and Friday nights and Saturday I was out of town the majority of the day for my cousin's baby shower. I started it back up today so I'll make sure to be a better blogger this week :)

Mother's Day Weekend Recap

I'm a bit behind, but what's new...

Last weekend was Mother's Day, my first to be exact!! MJ made me his first Mother's Day gift at daycare, how cute is this?!?! I have it at work on my desk

Saturday morning Dave's mom invited both myself and my mom to a Mother's Day brunch at her church.

Then I actually spent the majority of the rest of the weekend cleaning. You would think Mama's get the weekend off from that stuff but for some odd reason I had a lot of energy and motivation to get the entire house clean. I'm talking the whole shebang...upstairs and downstairs...dishes, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, windows, all three bathrooms, loads upon loads of laundry, sheets, pillows, towels, rugs, etc.

It helped that MJ was so good, not that he's ever bad or anything but he had some good self playtime and took two really great naps.

Nothing like a little morning reading in bed.

I'm fairly certain Dave forgot about Mother's Day.....okay he didn't forget, he knew it was coming, he talked about gifts ideas he might get but Sunday morning rolled around he had to "run some errands" and return a movie.

He came home with a card and flowers from him and MJ, along with McD's breakfast. The new egg white sandwich is pretty good and of course my fav, iced coffee!!

He's certainly not a plan-a-head type of guy but I still love him.

We had a nice dinner at Outback, I treated myself with a delicious Strawberry Margarita!!

My handsome little man.

I bet you thought I quit....

I did not!

I didn't get a chance to do the 30 Day Shred on Saturday so I made up for it on Sunday and did it twice! I did Workout 1 and then decided to see what Workout 2 was all about so I did it right afterwards.

It was hard!!
It sucks!!
I hate Jillian Michael's!
But I did it, both of them :)

Hope ya'll had a Happy (belated) Mother's Day!!

Week 1 - Complete!

I survived the first 7 days of the 30 Day Shred!!

That along with being in the middle of Week 3-4 of the C25K, it barely happened but I did it!!

Yesterday on I was still sore but not nearly as bad as the first few days. I think being sore is just something I'm always going to be throughout the rest of these 30 days, I don't see it getting easier...

I actually took a 20 minute walk with the fur babies and the human baby after I got off work. Once we were home I did the 30 day shred and after MJ was in bed I hurried on off to the gym to run jog. I completed week 4 day 1 of C25K, I literally can't believe I actually completed it...the entire run....no walking early. I thought I was going to die.
That's jog 3 minutes, walk 90 seconds, jog 5 minutes, walk 2.5 minutes, jog 3 minutes, walk 90 seconds, jog 5 minutes.
That last 5 minutes, as soon as I started I didn't think I would even make it a full minute but I kept pushing and tried distracting myself it the tv's at the gym and my music playing. I was hard. I pushed myself to do just one more minute, and then just one more after that, then just 30 seconds until I made it to the very end.
I was exhausted.
Then, after I caught my breath, I felt great. Because I did it.
My times not great but I'm lapping everyone sitting on the couch :)
Post workout din-din, grilled chicken, avocado slices, cucumber slices and a sweet potato with a small amount of butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. I'm working on portion control, eating healthier and drinking lots o lots o water! My water bottle at work is 32oz, I make sure to fill up 3 times and have it empty by time I leave work. That's 96oz y'all! On top of that I drink one or two 16oz bottles after I get home.
Water
Water
Water

Week 1 Complete suckas!

God give me the strength to complete the next 3!!!

Day 3 - 5

Happy Cinco Seis Siete de Mayo!!
Ha I started to post on Sunday but got distracted.

Sunday I seriously thought there was no way in hell I would be able to complete or even attempt Day 3 of the 30 Day Shred. I was so sore from the previous two days, especially Saturday night....and Sunday morning...and the entire day. So I kept putting it off. Until Dave gave home with a pizza for dinner.
So I figured if there is any way I was going to have a piece of pizza for dinner I had NO excuse not even attempt Day 3. So I high tailed my ass down to the basement.

Day 3... Completed!

Monday MJ and I enjoyed the beautiful 70 degree weather after I picked him up from daycare on the bike path. I attempted to continue the C25K, these hills are going to be the death of me...
The top first picture is what greats me at the very beginning...no bueno!
Then they go counter-clockwise in order of hills, after that the path finally evens out.

After jogging on the bike path, once little man was in bed I complete Day 4 of the shred. That's right TWO workouts in one day, beatches!

Onto today, Day 5 Complete!

I must say, Jillian is still kicking my ass on Workout 1 but I hardly need to take any short breaks in between and just switched from the modified workouts to the regular moves.
Waveland decided she wanted to help me with my workout tonight, nothing like fresh sweaty face for an evening treat I guess!

Feeling the Burn

Probably not the best idea to start the 30 Day Shred while trying to actually complete the C25K, but shit happens.

My time sucks on the treadmill but I did it! I got my ass off the couch and out the door to the gym. AND once I got home I completed day 2 of the shred!!!

NO EXCUSES

Friday, May 3, 2013

Yep, just did that!

Day 1 completed.

Only 29 more to go....

Look At Me

There's a first time for everything!

This is me....using our jogging stroller for it's intended purpose for the first time...JOGGING!!  LOL!

MJ was not impressed, he passed out for the entire thing :/

I found some inspiration from recently joining Instagram and following people who post pictures of all them working out, eating healthy meals, running while on vacation, and transformation of themselves from their progress. Never thought I would get that from Instagram!!

I'm not a runner.

I think I might have mentioned that sometime in the past. I am definitely NOT a runner outside. I just started doing the Couch 2 5K program again a few weeks but I no longer have time to take my lunch break to go to the gym since baseball season started this week and I'm in charge of drop offs and pick ups to daycare.

So I got inspired to start week 3 outside....with the jogging stroller....on the bike path...it's uphill both ways (I swear to gawd no joke!). We went jus under 3.5 miles round trip!!

I don't know how you runners can run (or in my case slow motion jogging/speed walking) while pushing a stroller.

IT IS HARD WORK!

It's just not hard, it's flat out exhausting.

Obviously it takes some practice getting use to it. It doesn't help that start of the bike path by our house has some awesomely huge hills.

I have less than 10 lbs to loss of baby weight (hopefully by his first birthday, fingers-crossed!). I'm hoping to continue doing the C25K outside with MJ in the stroller, pending weather.

I'm going to need more inspiration and continued motivation along the way to get there....

What inspires and motivates you to continue or push you to your weight loss/exercise goals?
