Craft time
I dusted my Cricut off over the weekend for a little craft project.
My friend Tera is due in August and I'm throwing her a baby shower. It's not going to be until June but I'm very excited and have so many ideas!!
They find out this Friday the gender but her father-in-law doesn't want to know, he wants to be surprised (if possible) until the birth. He's done this will all his grandkids, although someone usually spills the beans somehow, not on purpose of course. I'm going to do whatever I can NOT to be THAT person. I plan on having the shower be gender neutral, particularly the shower invitation. No "Their Having a GIRL" or "It's a BOY" here! Lucky for me, Tera has thought about decorating the nursery in a yellow and grey color theme so I decided to use that as the color theme for the shower as well. I also plan to make it a children's book theme with the menu all related to children's book.

It happened
It only took 7.5 months, but it finally happened.
He started rolling over...in his crib.....all the time now.
He gets stuck by that same arm that has been in the way of him rolling over. So he screams every time he rolls from him back to his belly until mommy come to the rescue.

Luckily it hasn't hindered him sleeping through the night. As soon as I flip him back over, I give him his paci and blanket then jet right out of the room. And he goes right back to sleep.
No night feedings yet...

Night feedings
One of the books I read in those early months trying to learn how to get my newborn baby to sleep was "The Sleep Lady's Good Night, Sleep Tight". First and foremost I wanted to focus on night sleep, putting baby to bed drowsy but awake and getting him learn how to eventually put himself to sleep. Once we started to get the whole night routine down, I was able to get him down to just one night feeding a night after he turned three months old. The book said that once babies are 6 months old they don't really need a night feeding anymore and are old enough to sleep through the night, 8+ hours uninterrupted, without eating. I remember thinking I wouldn't worry about getting up that one time to feed him until he was 6 months, then I would totally make sure he was done!
Six months came and went.
Seven months came and went.
I told myself he obviously needed it if he was still waking up for it, he'd give it up when he was ready. But I also wasn't fighting it. Even though I would love to get 8 hours of straight sleep again, I actually don't mind getting up for some extra cuddle time with my little man. He was only getting up once, if it was more than that then it would be different but it usually is only the one time. Colds and teething are another story!
I've been thinking a lot lately of when to finally pull the trigger to quit this night feeding thing. When I think about it I always come up with an excuse...so it might just be me not ready to give up the night feeding! When he wakes up, he eats and goes right back to sleep. No fussing. Plus, it's dark and quiet in the house, and he's just so cuddly...can you blame me for not wanting to give that up yet?! He's just getting so big so fast I actually enjoy those night feedings.
Sometimes when he wakes up later in the night to eat, like 3am, he'll sleep in a little later (especially on the weekends when I can let him). Last Saturday night Madden woke up at 12:30am, I decided to see if I could get him back to sleep to hold off on a later night feeding so maybe he would let us sleep in a little bit longer. He ended up falling back to sleep till 5:30am! When he woke up I fed him and put him back in his crib and he slept until 8:00am, which is definitely sleeping in for us (or me at least). After that I decided to see if we could do it again the next night. He did. And thus began the end of the night feeding.
Here's how the rest of the week went:
Saturday, Night 1 - Madden woke up at 12:30am, put back down with no feeding. Woke up at 5:30am, fed him then put him back down and he slept till 8am before up for the day.
Sunday, Night 2 - Madden woke up at 2:30am, then slept till 6:00am with no night feeding.
Monday, Night 3 - He woke up at 1:45am, then slept till 7:00am with no night feeding.
Tuesday, Night 4 - He woke up at 12:45am, then he woke up again at 2:45am, and he slept till 6:30am with no night feeding
Wednesday, Night 5 - Don't remember time but he only woke up once then slept till 6:30am with no night feeding
Thursday, Night 6 - Woke up at 3:30am then up at 6:45am with no night feeding
Friday, Night 7 - Slept 7:00pm - 6:30am
Saturday Night 8 - Slept 6:30pm - 6:45am
Madden made it an entire week with NO night feeding. NOT ONE!!! Yay Madden!
When he wakes up in the middle of the night, I go into his room and try not to pick him up. So far the first night was the only time I've had to pick him up to calm him down. I put his pacifier in, give him his little blanky he likes to rub on his face, turn his sound machine on and walk out of his room. So far it's worked! After a full week of trying it out, the last two nights he's slept 11-12 hours straight!!
Of course I've had a horrible cold the last couple days, so when he slept 11 hours straight that first night on Friday I was up all night long (and all morning) unable to sleep because I couldn't breathe. But thankfully I was able to enjoy my sleep last night.
Here's hoping Madden continues....I'll keep you all posted!
