Happy Two Months Madden!!!
He had his 2 month wellness exam today in which he did great despite the 4 shots he got. Three on the thighs and one oral. Dave usually takes care of him during our visits by striping him down, changing his diaper, taking him to get weighed and holding him while we wait. But once it came time for the shots he wanted nothing to do with it. He was pretty squeamish and wanted me to take over. I always thought it was suppose to be the other way around!
The oral one was of course the easiest and no problem at all. He was not a fan of the other ones however, he definitely cried for all three, turning bright red and holding his breath from being so upset but enough for us to be able to calm down after a bit. He fell asleep once we got him back in his car seat and slept while we ran some errands. The rest of the evening he's been fussy and sleepy. I have him some baby Tylenol and tried feeding him but he only took 2 oz and feel asleep to where I couldn't get him awake enough to eat more so to bed he went. Hopefully tonight goes well!
Dear Madden,
Oh how a few weeks can make such a big difference. Your first month sure was tough on your mommy but I think I'm finally figuring things out and starting to get into a routine with you! I fall in love with you more and more each day. I can't believe your ours! You literally amaze me every minute of the day, even when I'm frustrated your awake again for 10th time at 3am. Your daddy took a picture of you to work to put up in this locker to "help him get through each day". He gushes about you and I think it's just the sweetest thing!! We love watching you grow and checking out the world around you, trying to figure things out. Yes, you are officially noticing the world around you, recognizing faces and voices, and following those people with your eyes!
The big news this month, we transitioned you to your crib! You're still not a huge fan. You especially hated it the first week and you still have nights when it's really hard to get you to sleep. It was tough, on all of us and still is! I don't blame you since it's such a big crib and your still so small, plus mommy and daddy aren't in the room right next to you anymore and it can be a bit scary. But I think you're slowly coming around to it. You usually have one good stretch from 3-5 hours, then 2-3 hours. I think you sleep better in your own room or maybe I sleep better with you in your own room since you make far too many noises and move way to much. Against daddy's liking (at first) I bought a nice expensive video monitor to watch you and spy on you all hours of the night so I know your nice and safe. I feel this will come in pretty handy when you start getting bigger. Maybe I'll even hide it in your room when your a teenager so I can keep close tabs on you, so i know your not sneaking out of the house or sneaking girls in your room :)
During bedtime we try to feed you and put you down to sleep drowsy but awake. Your getting better everyday at putting yourself to sleep each night but again, there are still nights that don't go so well. I'm so glad to have splurged on the camera because I love watching you! It's definitely saved me from running in your room to check on you and waking you up. Plus I can usually zoom in to see if your still breathing :) Once I put you down you usually are able to just hang out context for a while before you drift off to never never land. You almost always fuss for awhile but I can definitely distinguish between your tired cries and your pissed off cries.
Naps on the other hand are a totally different story. You don't nap well unless your in someones arms or in your car seat driving around. You always wake up after only 30 minutes which is not nearly enough and can make for one overtired and fussy kid by late afternoon and evening! You always seem to wake yourself up all the way after that first sleep cycle when your transitioning from one stage to the next. We need to work on that...
You started wearing some of your cloth diapers at 5 weeks old. You were still too tiny to wear the majority of them and to help ease me into using them on you I started putting them on you just during the day when I'm home with you. Now you fit into all of them on the smallest size and I try to put you in them as much as I can. I've just started to attempt overnight so your usually still in disposables for that and usually on any outgoings we go on. I must admit I'm a bit intimidated to use them outside the house. Your daddy still has not jumped on the bandwagon yet but I'm not pushing him just yet until I get more comfortable with them myself. When he changes you and you have a CD on he always puts you back in a disposable and then I'll change you the next time and change you back :)
Now that the weather has started to cool of a bit from those crazy hot August temps we've been able to enjoy walks even more. We meet your two buddies downtown at the bike path along the riverfront once or twice a week. When all your mommies were pregnant we use to meet for dinner once a month and now that you've all arrived and everyone cleared for activity we really enjoying meeting for some fresh air and exercise along the gorgeous river.
You've meet most of all your buddies this month! All of our friends really look forward to watching all the kids growing up together, play dates, parties and LOTS and LOTS of fun!
You're doing awesome during tummy time and your neck is getting stronger each day. When we hold you upright you will even hold your head up all on your own for a while then go back and forth between bobble head baby and strong neck baby! You really like bath time....just as long as the water is nice and warm and daddy keeps covering you with the warm water. You're getting a bit to big for the bath sling so I think we'll be taking that off here very soon. I'm already looking forward to getting you signed up for swim class at the YMCA once your six months old, that's January!!
You took two big road trips this month! Your first road trip mommy and grandma Mary took you to meet your great-grandma Hayek and Aunt Marge. It was a 2 hour trip each way and you rocked!! You sleep the entire time there and back, waking up both times just a few miles away from our destination. It was a pretty special trip since she is your only great grandparent still living. She didn't know you and I were coming with grandma so it was a surprise and a pretty awesome surprise at that. Now I just need to get those pictures from grandma :)
The other road trip was a bit longer. We went with grandma and grandpa Gorsh this past weekend on a 5 1/2 hour trip up to Minnesota for your first wedding! It was your first trip out of state to my best friend Roxie's wedding. Their reception was at a park in an indoor pavilion, it was a pretty chilly Minnesota day we tried to bundle you up but apparently we don't have a lot of warm weather clothes for you this small. I don't think you were a huge fan of the cooler temps as you seemed to want to hibernate the entire day. I couldn't get you to stay awake for the life of me!! You're going to have to suck it up kid because you have a whole lot of cold, snowy, icy and below zero days ahead of you living in the Midwest! You did awesome on this road trip too and sleep the entire way there and back, we only had to stop once both ways.
Tickles from grandpa!
We can't wait to see what your 2nd month of life brings us! Just don't grow up too fast ;) You mean the world to both your daddy and I, we love you so much!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy!
Stats:
Age: 2 months
Weight: 12 pounds 2 ouncesLength: 24 inches long
Size: Size One diapers and small setting on all cloth diapers. Currently wearing 0-3 months and 3 month clothes and a few 3-6 month pj's.
Hair: Brown with some lighter locks underneath, he's rocking the faux-hawk right now!
Teeth: Not yet!
Sleeping: This has been a roller coaster ride. Starting to get the hang of this night time sleeping thing but not a fan of naps.
Eating: Exclusively breast milk!
Movement: His neck is getting so strong! He can hold it up for a bit when we hold him sitting up, we don't need to support it as much. He follows us with his eyes and will turn his head when he hears our voice from further away. Still kickin his legs and swinging his arms like crazy.
Milestones: Smiling!! Becoming more aware of the things around him. Being able to see better, following voices and peoples faces.
Favorite Toys/Activities: Eating! Walks in the stroller, car rides, his bouncy chair, lights, ceiling fans, bath time, pulling mommy's hair with his tight gripe.
Dislikes: Waiting to eat. Being transferred from the bath to the towel. Going to sleep. He also hates when we first strap him in his car seat.
Words & Sounds: He still does a lot of grunting in his sleep. I've learned to distinguish between his fake cry and real cry, as well as his hungry and tired cries. He's started making the cutest sighing noises. He laughs/giggles in his sleep (so can't wait for him to do that awake!).
Call me, maybe?
