Harper 6 Months Old

Half a Year Old!!!

Age: Six Months Old

Weight: 15lbs 12 ounces, 40 percentile

Length:  26 1/4 inches, 63 percentile

Size: Harper is in size 2 diapers although we might need to move up here sooner than later. She is wearing all 6 month clothes and pajamas, however some leggings are getting pretty tight so we are just starting to break out the 9 month collection.

Hair: I thought she was going to be a blondie but as it is starting to fill in it looks like it will be the same color as Madden’s

Eyes: She still has BIG blue eyes with long lashes that go all the way up to her eyebrows when she bats them. And she is quickly learning just how to use them to make everyone a puddle of mush.

First Foods!

Health:  Another great month of health. Aside for a few days of waking up snotty, she has been happy, healthy, hungry and continues to grow and develop.

Teeth: None yet but she just loves chewing on her thump and first two fingers whenever possible. And of course putting everything in her mouth.

Sleeping:  Let’s just say Operation Sleep Through the Night will be starting in full force this month. The majority of this month she has been waking up an average of 3 times per night, some nights more and a few nights less. She is officially a tummy sleeper and will immediately flip over. This past week she is just starting to get back to 1-2 times. She usually is settled pretty easily, just needs her pacifier and a little back rub then she goes right back to sleep. Bedtime is around 7:00pm and wake up time is about 6:30am. Her naps have been getting better. They aren’t consistent on the length but she typically takes her first nap around 9-9:30am and her second nap around 1:00pm. Her morning naps tend to be much longer than the afternoon ones. They vary from 40 minutes – 2.5 hours. Afternoon naps vary from 20 minutes – 2 hours, but usually in the shorter side. By time I get home from work around 5:30pm she is tired and will sometimes fall asleep during that feeding or take a short catnap but powers through for another hour or so.

Starting to sit unassisted
Eating:  We started solid foods this month. We are a little casual about it but have been trying to offer her solids 1-2 times a day. Let me tell you, she is so NOT impressed with this eating thing! I know at the beginning most babes spit the majority of their food back out because they are learning but she looks disgusted trying everything and most of the entire time trying to feed her. Big brother loves to help feed her and absolutely has to sit right next to her at the dinner table. She of course loves him sitting next to her also and is always watching him. So far she has tried avocado, squash, oatmeal, carrots, pears, bananas and mum-mums. Harper is still waking up for one night time feeding which I am hoping to wean her from very soon.

Movement:  My little wiggle worm is all over the place! We thought she had forgot how to roll from her tummy to her back because for quite awhile she would get really mad once she rolled from back to belly. We think this was a lot of why she woke up so much this month, because she couldn’t figure how to roll onto her side or her back but if we flipped her over she would just roll right back over to her tummy again and back to sleep. Now she is rolling all over the place from both side without a fuss. She turned herself in every direction and usually is never in the same spot I put her down and even in the opposite direction. She does what we call the Superman, kicks out her legs and arms while on her tummy like she is trying to move somewhere. She will either push up with her arms or onto her knees with her butt up in the air like she is getting ready to get up on all fours but hasn’t figured out putting them together just yet.

Milestones: Starting to eat solids. Eating her toes. Belly laughs. Starting to sit up unassisted for a few seconds at a time. First time swinging in the baby swing. She is starting to outgrow her bouncer since she is so squirmy, she tries rolling in it.

Favorite Toys/Activities: She has really taken to the jumperoo and loves bouncing. Obsessed with putting her toes in her mouth, eating her big toe. Loves sucking on her thumb and first two fingers. Playing under her playmat. Still loves diaper changes, being naked and bath time. Smiling and talking to anyone who gives her attention. Her big brother, she watches him all the time and looks around for him when she hears him. She thinks it’s funny when he tries laying on her and “wrestling” her (which he knows he’s not allowed to do!).

Dislikes: Eating baby food. Aside from that I really can’t think of anything anymore. She typically is always happy and content, the only reason she is fussy is if she is tired. Ahh the wonders of finally taking naps!

Words: N/A

Sounds: Laughing and giggling. She usually only cries when she’s tired or hungry. She still coos, squawks blows raspberries, and “talks" all the time. She loves interacting with people who give her attention. She has started talking in her crib. I’ve heard her a couple times in the middle of the night talking and eventually will fall back to sleep on her own. And she has started talking in the morning if she wakes up on her own.

Favorite Moments
  • Our daycare had her baby this past month so she took 3 weeks off for maternity leave. Both grandparents helped take a couple days each week to watch the kids so they got lots of extra attention and quality time with both grandmas and papas. One of those days ended up getting pretty warm out and our house got a bit hot. Grandma Karen hasn’t gotten clearance to pick up Harper yet from her physical therapy, she can hold her but isn’t strong enough yet to pick her up so Papa Jim takes over the duty of putting Harper to sleep and getting her out of her crib. Papa Jim and Madden had worked out in the garden so they were extra hot and Jim had taken his shirt off to cool off quicker.  When Harper got up from her nap Papa Jim is the one to go get her. When she wakes up she is usually hungry and ready to eat shortly after sooooo grandpa having no short on at the time Harper tried to nurse papa! LOL Can’t wait for her to read about that one J
