Halloween Treat Time

This year for Madden's Halloween party at daycare we decided to make some Halloween Puppy Chow aka Muddy Buddies from the back of the Chex Cereal box. We're cheaters!

The candy snatcher: Two for me, one for my daycare buddies.

Chex Muddy Buddies Recipe
  • 9 cups Rice or Corn Chex
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 - 2 cups powdered sugar (I always add a little extra to make sure its all nicely covered)
  1. In a large bowl measure and pour in cereal then set aside.
  2. In a microwavable bowl combine chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter, then microwave uncovered for 1 minute. Stir then microwave an additional 30 seconds or so as needed until melted and smooth. Add in vanilla and stir. Pout mixture over cereal and stir until all cereal is evenly coated.
  3. Pour coated cereal into a large resealable plastic bag, add powdered sugar, seal and shake, shake, shake until covered. Spread onto a large cookie sheet to cool.
*To make this recipe more "Halloweenie" we added candy pumpkins and the Autumn Harvest themed M&M's but any Halloween candies could be added or substituted.

My cute little kitchen helper.
It really is such a super easy and fast recipe and of course addicting! Now I regret not doubling the recipe for leftovers to keep at home :(  Looks like I'll just have to make a quick stop at the grocery store so we can enjoy some at home!

I couldn't resist not posting this picture below, don't let this innocent face fool you. He's trying to hide the fact he keeps eating ALL the candy!
