17 Months Old

Happy 17 months Madden James!

Ahhhh I can't get over his total cuteness. 

The biggest news this month....he's walking!!
Hallelujah!!
Holy smokes I was beginning to think he was never going to want to walk and just crawl his way to college. He's slowing getting the hang of this walking thing more and more every day. He takes the smallest little steps and keeps his arms all the way by his shoulders, might be the cutest thing ever.
No I will not regret him walking. I'm positive there will be times I wish he did not want to get down and take off running from me but I love watching him develop and learn new things.

He'll hold onto my finger and we'll talk from the living room down the hallway to his bedroom at night for bedtime. It just melts my heart when he holds my hand like that. He doesn't need to, he can do it on his own but as the night wears on he gets a little more clumsy the more tired he is.... I won't complain.

My little Elf

This month we've had lots of things going on from Thanksgiving festivities to early Christmas celebrations and all the preparation for the holiday's. He's been awesome with the Christmas tree! He loves looking at the lights and ornaments. He is definitely curious about it and wants to touch them. I do let him touch them but he has been very good with listening to me to be gentle or not to take them off the tree. 

It's so cute to catch him sitting down in front of the tree just starring up at it in amazement and wonder. I truly love this time of year!

Monthly Highlights

• Celebrated Thanksgiving at the Dexter's with both grandparents and the puppies
• Went to the Festival of Trees for the first time with Grandma Mary, loved the train display
• Celebrated Thanksgiving at the Gorsh's with his cousins 
• False alarm with pink eye, instead just a cold coming out of this eyes
• Caught playing in the toilet for the first time
• Got to two extra mommy/Madden days because of no daycare 
• Hosted Christmas with the Gorsh side of the family, got to meet the entire family from Missouri and 2nd cousin Grant
• Watched the first snowfall of the season
• Went Christmas shopping with mama
• Had his first Orange Julius
• Started officially walking
• Visited Santa
• Went out to eat for Grandma Mary's birthday
• Play date with Tera and Violet for Christmas crafts
• Watched lots of Christmas movies
• Enjoyed lots of cuddles in front of the fireplace
• Celebrated Christmas at the Gorsh's
• Played at Jungle Bungle with Jackson and Halana

Length: 31 inches maybe taller we'll see at his 18 month appt next month

Size: In between wearing size 4 and 5 diapers, wearing 18M and 24M/2T but some are still just too big.

Hair: Light brown

Eyes: Blue, I think it's safe to say they are blue and no going back



Relaxing

Health: He had a nasty cold at the beginning of the month. At one point we thought he had pink eye but it turned out the cold was just coming out of his eyes which apparently is pretty common (lesson learned!). Took him to the doctor to be sure but Dr said he wasn't contagious and to send him to daycare. Yes sir! He had a good week of diarrhea and LOTS of diaper explosions followed by LOTS of baths and laundry.

Temperament: (New category!) This month he's been more cranky than usual. Maybe it's the changing weather or the two bugs he had but he crabby pants has come out to play a lot more this month around.

Teeth:  12 teeth, just missing those vampire teeth.

Sleeping: Sleeping is staying the same! He's been down to one nap at daycare for a while now and usually just takes one on the weekends but every other week or so sometimes he needs two.

Eating:  Still being a picky eater this month and it's driving me cray-cray! Some days he likes bananas some days he won't eat them. Sometimes he will only eat one for breakfast and no other time of the day. This goes the same for most other foods he usually always likes. Yogurt, oatmeal and scrambled eggs are the 3 things he will always eat. He still is not interested in eating veggies and most meat unless it's in a nugget form or pasta sauce.
     

Movement: WALKING! Still prefers to crawl a lot but his confidence is improving everyday and every day he goes a little bit further. He really loves his walker and boating around the house with that thing. He also likes to take his motorcycle for a walk pushing it backwards with the handlebars.

Milestones: WALKING!! Down to 1 nap a day.

Favorite Toys/Activities: Loves to throw just about anything and everything he can get his hands on! Particularly food, bath toys, balls, remotes, sippy cups, puffs/crackers at the dogs, socks. Everything. He doesn't just throw them he whips them really hard across the room. He's got some pretty good aim too! He likes to play with the drain in the bath. Playing in the curtains. His blankie, all blankets and pillows. His pacifier. Cruising laps around the kitchen and living room with his walker or motorcycle. Playing in the dog food dishes. Putting dog food in shoes! Getting into the pantry to play with anything he can get his hands on. The cabinets under the bathroom sink. Playing in the dogs kennel and closing himself in.

Dislikes: Diaper changes are still fifty-fifty, he either lays there without a fuss or cries or needs to be wrestled in order to get a diaper on. Getting dried off after bath time, still not a fan of that and would just rather air dry even in the winter. Waiting for mommy to make dinner as soon as she walks in the door from work. Still sometimes he's not a huge fan of being strapped in his car seat.        

Words/Sounds: I think the only word he added this month was Santa. I admit half the time I don't understand what he's trying to say or wants but the other half it can be clear as day. He points Santa out in books, on TV and in person. He actually will say "Thank you" when you give him something without being prompted!! 

Favorite Moments

•  Visiting Santa! We walked past him a couple times before at the mall to showed him Santa but kept far enough away to not get scared. He would stare at him and wave. On one of mommy's days off of work we went Christmas shopping at the mall and found the perfect time to go up to see him, no line! We walked up to the gate, as soon as Madden saw him he said "Santa!" We took a little time and got closer and closer to him. MJ gave him a high fave but was still a little unsure. After a few minutes I sat it him his lap and walked back by the camera.....he was very unsure, didn't know what to do...stare at him, cry, or be scared. He wanted nothing to do with smiling which is okay. After about 5 minutes on his lap he started making his pouty face and walked to me. Then waved and said "Santa" again and all was well.  

• We broke out some of his old baby toys for when baby Violet came to visit. He's obsessed with the bouncy chair. He uses it as a recliner to watch TV. He has a pillow so he's propped up a bit to watch TV. He likes to sit back and relax, alternating drinking his milk, eating crackers and using his pacifier while cuddling with his blankie. He also likes to sit in it backwards, face plant into the pillow and bounce.
